Who is behind it

Founder and developer
BoltCompress is an independent project. Esteban designed and built the whole thing: the website, the API, and the worker that runs FFmpeg on every video. Esteban also writes and maintains the guides on this site.
The project started from a familiar annoyance: a video that is too big to send. Most online compressors were full of pop-ups, asked for an account before doing anything, or added a watermark. BoltCompress was built to do one job well: upload, pick a level, download a smaller file.

- The compressor: shrink MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM videos up to 250 MB, free, 5 videos per day, no account needed.
- The size calculator: work out the bitrate that fits WhatsApp, Discord, or email limits.
- Upload limits: current maximum file sizes for popular apps, re-checked regularly.
- Guides: practical articles on codecs, bitrate, phones, and platforms.
How it works
Videos are uploaded straight from your browser to private cloud storage (Cloudflare R2), compressed by a worker running FFmpeg, and made available through a private download link. The compression levels re-encode the video at about 75%, 45%, or 25% of its original bitrate using H.264 or H.265. - The free tool stays free. The site is funded by advertising, and ads never cover or interrupt the compressor.
